This year the Christmas in June weekend getaway was held at The Valley Lodge and Spa in Magaliesburg. The lodge is surrounded by a nature reserve and is also situated on the banks of the Magalies river. What a magical setting! The resident Zebras were so tame and each day the family made their way past our units for their evening graze, including a very cute and fluffy baby.
Making our way to the lodge for the Friday night crazy hat dinner (we were joined by a young Lenny Kravitz), we were greeted by roaring fires in the lounge and dining room. The dinner was delicious with a wide variety of starters, mains and desserts from which to choose.
Saturday was another beautiful sunny winters day. With lots of options to select, some chose to go exploring and hiking, whilst others stayed at the lodge and took advantage of the rowing boats available for a quick row on the dam.One of the club members decided to go for an unplanned swim, fully clothed.Luckily modern phones are quite resilient.Other members found interesting shops and were very pleased with the treasures theydiscovered.Lunch at the nearby Black Horse restaurant and distillery can be highly recommended.
In the late afternoon, a number of members met in Maloneys bar to watch the Springboks play France and play a game or two of snooker. Saturday night Christmas dinner was all too soon upon us.On entering the dining room we were met with beautiful table settings, complete with Christmas hats and crackers. There was once again a wide variety of delicious food on offer. After dinner the Christmas presents were opened and the chatting and socialising continued at Maloneys.
After breakfast on Sunday some had to reluctantly make their way home, whilst others stayed on to enjoy the last of the picturesque setting and relaxing, welcoming lodge.
Until next year this time we will say so long to Christmas in June for 2017.
