You know that excitement kicks in when you have a wet skidpan event at 12am and you are up at 6am getting ready for the day.
Too much excitement was happening for the day and a tad bit of stress. On the 8th October, not only was it the BMW Car Club Gauteng 2nd Wet Skidpan Gymkhana of the year, but also we had historic racing on the day, which caused more stress for our guests to come in if they brought more people. As well as what made this day a little more unique than most is that we had Ga-Rankuwa Sunshine Hospice with us with a few kids to join us for the day, they got in the cars and went for a spin. Giving them an experience that they didn’t know that there was a sport like this out there. As well as we had, Guthrie Blaine (Bridgestone) who brought us a few exciting cars, 4x4!! Who would have thought, a whole class of 4x4s, different sizes, makes and builds. Was very exciting non-the less.
Meeting new people, make new friends, see what other cars potentials are. The thrill is in the game and in those who want to play it. More exciting and to my surprise, I ended up losing to a new comer Jaylene Guest in a Z4!! She mentioned she did gymkhana once or twice, it just proves to show that there are people out there who have the talent without really trying. To my surprise as well, my buddy Monica van der Westhuizen gave me a hiding in my own car! How embarrassing that a girl who said that she didn’t like BMWs so much due to being an Audi lover, but giving her the opportunity to take my car for a spin, that changed her mind about BMWs. I guess I get the brownie points for that!
But main thing stays that it was a great and fantastic day. We all had fun, spectators, competitors and kids.
The Trophy winners were as follows:
