Details of the 2018 Bridgestone BMW CCG Track Days
Season Ticket Entry
To encourage consistent participation we are offering a season ticket entry for the year. The combined entry fees for all 4 track days amounts to R6000. If you register for the season in January you will qualify for a 15% discount on your entry fees which amounts to R5100 (not refundable in full or pro-rata if you miss an event). It also means you will be pre-registered for each event and will not have to complete an entry every time. Your registration and season ticket payment must be completed by 31 January 2018.
We kick off the year with a testing and technical inspection day at Midvaal on 20 January. This is not a club run event- it is purely for some track time and a social get together, and we will have scrutineers present to ensure all cars are up to scratch before the first round. More details will follow soon.
Time Trial Championship
We will continue to run a season championship. Points are scored as follows at each event:
To be eligible for final championship recognition, a minimum of 3 events must be entered.
The Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series will return to our track days in 2018. This was where our race series started and the feeling amongst all is that the club will benefit by hosting the race heats on our own days again. The balance of the championship rounds will be hosted on an invitational basis with the regional motorsport tours. As such, the programme will look a little different but we have calculated a fair amount of track time for all.
We have fortunately retained Bridgestone as the title sponsor for all the track days in 2018. At each event, we will have different dealer sponsors as hosts of the event. We have once again incorporated our Race Series sponsors into the track days to give them further exposure and to improve the viability of the events themselves.
The dates for 2018 are as follows:
20 January Midvaal Test Day and Technical Inspection
9-10 March Phakisa
16 June Red Star
21 July Zwartkops
1 December Kyalami
The club is building a car for use as a Track School vehicle. This is only for novices using their own car to enter time trials and that have completed a BMW Driving Experience High Performance Course previously. The first two sessions of the day will be under instruction in the club car to orientate you on the correct etiquette for our track days before you will be allowed to use your own car. This is limited to 6 people per event.
The hot lap program should continue in 2018 as before. We are currently negotiating this with BMW Driving Experience and Bridgestone South Africa.
Photography and Media
We will continue to contract the services of Racepics for all photography and post event media. They crucially understand the importance of sponsor branding being carried through all media. We urge that members continue to support them by both purchasing images and promoting their social media albums post-event so that we can measure the club’s footprint and give meaningful feedback to our sponsors.
The track days will be run by Michael Broom with assistance from Bernard de Gouveia and the club committee. Bernard will be taking over the Time Trials and Race Series in 2019 and he will be trained this year on how to run them both. Please give Bernard your support and patience.
After every event we will hold a drivers meeting at the Italian Club in Bedfordview for those participating in both the Time Trials and Race Series. You will be notified of these meetings 1 week in advance and are most welcome to attend.
