You asked for it, and it’s back with a bang! A good old-fashioned BMW Club weekend in Welkom is back on the calendar, and we are doing things old school!
Here is the important information, PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BEFORE DOING YOUR REGISTRATION.
Securing your entry
ONLY PAYMENT SECURES YOUR ENTRY. Entries will close strictly on 13 September. Please do your entry and payment as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
As previously promised, entry into the Phakisa event guarantees you first option at the Kyalami Track Day on 28 October, where entries are limited.
Season Ticket Entries
If you have booked a season ticket entry, you need only notify the organizer that you will be attending. Your entry will be processed for you.
The time trial sessions will run as they have done in 2017. Cars will be split into 3 groups according to lap time/performance. The one benefit of a Phakisa weekend is there is loads of track time and space available.
If for any reason your car does not comply completely within the new classes, the organizer reserves the right to place you in the applicable class. Please take note of the attached Time Trial Classes document for further info. If you are not sure of anything, please feel free to contact Michael Broom.
Time Trial Championship
We will continue to run a season championship. Points are scored as follows at each event:
Where only two cars are entered into a class:
At the end of the season, bonus points will be awarded per event entered.
In between your Time Trial sessions, we invite you to take part in a Slalom Challenge around a course that will be laid out in the paddock area. Cars will be set off one at a time and timed accordingly. Your best run of the day will be used for scoring, the winner of each class will be awarded a trophy. Classes will be the same as the normal Time Trial classes.
Handicap Pursuit Race
This is a fun race at the end of the day for all cars (BMW and other) that are race prepared i.e. roll cage, kill switches, extinguishers etc. It will comprise a single 8 lap race where the best times recorded in the sessions will determine the starting order and time difference. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 finishers overall. This race does not count towards any championships.
We will have our traditional pit braai on the Friday night for those attending. You can order braai packs (500g) as part of your registration which cost R70 each. The club will take care of salads, rolls etc. If you would like to bring your own braai and meat, you are most welcome to. Please note our supplier is not able to supply Halaal meat but if needed we will supply a separate braai.
Saturday will end with a prize giving in the pits. Thereafter, we have informally booked at Mojo’s in Welkom for dinner which has proven to be a favourite amongst members.
Mandatory clothing for time trials is a helmet, driving gloves, long cotton shirt, long pants and closed shoes. It is highly recommended to carry a fire extinguisher in your car.
You are welcome to take passengers on track. They will need to complete a passenger indemnity and pay R50 at the BMW Car Club desk on the day.
MSA licences are required for this event. If you do not have a licence, you may apply for a day licence but this needs to be booked and paid for before the event. Contact the organizer for information. PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE OVER 50 YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE A STRESS ECG WITH YOUR APPLICATION FOR EITHER A DAY OR ANNUAL LICENCE!
